Kristin Shirahama receives a Pro Bono Award from the Women's Bar Foundation

posted June 5, 2015

We are pleased to announce that Kristin Shirahama received a Pro Bono Award from the Women's Bar Foundation for her volunteer work in support of the Foundation's Elder Law Project. Kristin has provided training and mentoring to volunteer lawyers who agree to represent low-income elders who need assistance with critical legal documents such Durable Powers of Attorney and Health Care Proxies. Without these documents, if an individual becomes incapacitated a petition must be filed with the court so that an appropriate individual may be appointed legal conservator and/or guardian in order to provide critical assistance to the elder. Having these lifetime documents allows individuals to maintain control beyond a period when they are able to manage their own affairs. In addition to her support of volunteer attorneys, Kristin has given presentations to low-income elders on the importance of putting their legal affairs in order.
